Electricity supply has been fully restored to Nigeria’s Northeast following the completion of work on a key substation in Bauchi, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Sunday, TCN’s spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said power was reinstated through the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe transmission corridors, after they were briefly shut down to link the new Bauchi Substation to the national grid.
The new facility, described as one of the largest substations in the region, was successfully energised on June 19 at 4:45 p.m. Its activation marks a major milestone in boosting grid capacity and improving electricity distribution in the Northeast.
With the grid connection complete, bulk power transmission has resumed to the Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies, ensuring supply to customers across Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Damaturu, Adamawa, and Taraba.
Mbah noted that the substation enhances grid reliability, provides alternative transmission routes, and strengthens TCN’s emergency response capabilities in the region. She also expressed appreciation for the patience shown by residents and businesses affected during the outage.
The project reflects TCN’s ongoing efforts to expand Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and improve service delivery to underserved areas.
