TotalEnergies Begins Work on Ubeta Gas Project, Targets 70,000 Barrels Daily by 2027

TotalEnergies has commenced the development phase of its Ubeta gas project, aiming to boost Nigeria’s energy production with an expected output of 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2027.

Located in OML 58, the onshore gas project marks a major push in the company’s efforts to strengthen its footprint in Nigeria’s gas sector. The update was shared by the firm’s Country Chair, Matthieu Bouyer, during a session at the 2025 NOG Energy Week in Abuja.

Bouyer credited regulatory support from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and backing from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited for helping the project move forward.

He also noted progress on the offshore IMA gas project, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and AMNI in OMLs 112 and 117. That development is currently in the engineering design phase, with a final investment decision expected in 2026. It is also projected to deliver 70,000 boe/d once fully operational.

Bouyer further outlined the company’s recent milestones, including ongoing work on the Ntokon discovery and the acquisition of new oil blocks over the past year.

On environmental sustainability, he said TotalEnergies is deploying advanced technology such as AUSEA to detect and manage methane emissions as part of a wider strategy to produce cleaner energy. The company is partnering with NNPC on this initiative.

TotalEnergies remains active in Nigeria’s gas value chain and continues to support domestic projects like NLNG Train 7. Although its renewable energy presence in the country is currently limited, Bouyer said the company plans to scale up investments in that space.
