Egypt and Azerbaijan Discuss Expanding Oil and Gas Cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, on the sidelines of the Ninth OPEC+ International Seminar in Vienna to explore deeper cooperation in the energy sector.

Their discussions focused on potential joint projects in oil and gas, including LNG trade, petroleum products, and investment opportunities in Egypt’s upstream sector — particularly in exploration, production, and upgrading mature oil fields.

Both ministers examined ways to align their infrastructure and technical capabilities to support mutual goals. They also considered collaboration between Egypt’s General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Azerbaijan’s state oil firm, SOCAR.

Badawi outlined Egypt’s current energy priorities and emphasized areas that could benefit from bilateral collaboration. The meeting also referenced the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2024 during the Azerbaijani President’s visit to Cairo, which aims to strengthen ties in oil, gas, and petrochemical development.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing that agreement and exploring new investment prospects to support stronger economic relations.
