It’s Cheaper to Get Fuel from Togo Than My Own Refinery – Dangote

Aliko Dangote says it costs more to buy fuel from his refinery in Lekki than to import it from Togo.

At a recent energy conference in Abuja, the business mogul blamed high port charges and too many regulations for making locally refined fuel more expensive. He explained that marketers pay twice in Nigeria, when loading and when offloading but only once when they import from places like Lomé in Togo.

“This setup is killing local refining and making Nigeria rely on imported fuel,” he said.

Some oil marketers also complained that Dangote’s refinery isn’t open enough. They say prices aren’t shared upfront, and only a few buyers get access to fuel.

Others fear this could lead to a monopoly if one company controls too much of the fuel market.

Industry leaders are now calling on regulators to step in and make sure the market stays fair for everyone.
