Seplat Energy has wrapped up the second edition of its Lagos Media Entrepreneurship Training, equipping another 50 journalists with practical business skills and innovative tools to thrive in today’s fast-changing media industry.
The two-day programme gathered correspondents from across Nigeria—particularly those covering judiciary, energy, and business—offering them immersive workshops, expert-led sessions, and insights on sustainable media ventures.
Speaking at the event, Chioma Yvonne Afe, Seplat Energy’s Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, said the company is committed to helping journalists expand their professional capacity beyond news reporting. She stressed that entrepreneurship skills can help media practitioners build financially viable platforms that both inform and empower communities.
The training featured seasoned facilitators including Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, who explored the role of self-awareness and networking in business growth; Mrs. Uloma Okoro, who guided participants on creating viable business models; and Mr. Olu Onakoya, who focused on financial literacy and investment strategies.
Other sessions covered media technology trends, content innovation, and the role of the press in national security, with contributions from Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotosho, DSS Director Babajide Adisa, multimedia producer Nnamdi Uwaemelulam, and renowned economist Professor Pat Utomi.
Participants were exposed to strategies on strategic thinking, mentorship, and self-leadership, with the aim of fostering a new generation of journalists capable of blending storytelling with business acumen.
The initiative, part of Seplat Energy’s annual media capacity-building programme, reflects the company’s ongoing investment in strengthening Nigeria’s media landscape and encouraging innovation among practitioners.
