Seplat Makes First Local LPG Delivery from Bonny River Terminal

Seplat Energy Plc, in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has carried out its maiden domestic supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the Bonny River Terminal in Rivers State.

The company delivered 12,600 metric tons of butane into the local market — a move that transforms the terminal from being mainly an export hub into a supplier for Nigeria. The initiative is expected to improve access to cooking gas, reduce import reliance, and strengthen energy security.

Seplat is also preparing to launch two major gas projects before the end of 2025: the 300 MMscfd ANOH Gas Plant in Imo and the 90 MMscfd Sapele Gas Plant in Delta. Both plants will feature LPG extraction units, producing more than 280 metric tons per day combined.

According to Seplat’s CEO, Roger Brown, expanding local LPG supply is vital for cutting carbon emissions, improving air quality, and helping households switch from firewood and charcoal to cleaner cooking fuels.

This progress comes after Seplat’s acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited in late 2024, now operating as Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited. The deal has already boosted production, reserves, and revenues, with mid-2025 results showing nearly triple output compared to the previous year.

With these steps, Seplat is positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s shift toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
