Helmerich & Payne, Inc. has emerged as the leading land driller in the U.S. for the first quarter of 2025, according to the latest Enverus rankings. The company drilled 16.4 million feet across 859 wells, operating an average of 146 rigs during the period.
Patterson-UTI Drilling Company came in second with 10.7 million feet drilled across 540 wells, while Nabors Industries, Ltd. secured third place with 7.1 million feet over 366 wells. Ensign Energy Services, Inc. and Precision Drilling Corporation completed the top five with 3.4 million and 3.2 million feet drilled, respectively.
On the customer side, Exxon ranked first, drilling 5 million feet in 225 wells using an average of 36 rigs. EOG, ConocoPhillips, Occidental, and Chevron followed closely, demonstrating strong land drilling activity across the U.S.
Mark Chapman, Principal Analyst at Enverus Intelligence Research, explained that these rankings reflect more than just drilling volume. “The Top Drillers list highlights the strategies, technologies, and operational efficiencies shaping the future of land drilling,” he said, emphasizing that the data helps operators benchmark performance and stay competitive.
Industry partners also praised Enverus’ data. Bryan Haubert of ZL Chemicals said access to timely, accurate intelligence is essential for informed decision-making and faster growth. Adam Bell of Liberty Energy added that tracking market trends and operator behavior provides a significant competitive edge.
