Petrol Tanker Crash Claims Two Lives in Kwara

Tragedy struck on Tuesday along the Ilorin–Jebba highway in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State when a petrol tanker overturned and caught fire, killing two people.

The victims, identified as the truck driver and his assistant, died instantly when the tanker, which was loaded with about 30,000 litres of fuel, lost control at Pasa village and burst into flames around 3:45 p.m.

Emergency officials from the Kwara State Fire Service were quickly deployed to the scene and succeeded in putting out the fire before it spread to other vehicles.

Confirming the incident, the agency’s spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, described the accident as “unfortunate” and praised the swift response of the rescue team.

The State Fire Service Director, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also appealed to tanker drivers and other motorists to observe speed limits, maintain their vehicles regularly, and avoid fatigue or late-night driving to reduce the risk of accidents.

Olumuyiwa further advised road users to carry functional fire extinguishers and report emergencies promptly to enable quick intervention by safety authorities.
