France Unveils 23 MW Floating Solar Farm Powering 12,000 Homes

France has launched a new 23 MWp floating solar power plant in the Saône-et-Loire region, adding to the country’s renewable energy capacity. The project, built on former gravel pits along the Arroux River, was announced by French floating solar pioneer Ciel & Terre.

Spread across five lakes, the installation features about 40,000 solar panels connected to 50 inverters. It is projected to generate around 26 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to supply roughly 12,000 residents.

Verso Energy oversaw project development, while Solutions30 France carried out the electrical installation and grid connection. Ciel & Terre designed, supplied, and assembled the floating and anchoring systems that keep the plant in place.

This milestone comes just weeks after Ciel & Terre completed an 11 MWp floating solar project in Saint-Elix for SOLVEO Energies, reflecting the growing adoption of floating solar in France.

By making use of water surfaces, floating solar farms provide an efficient alternative to land-based installations, supporting France’s broader transition to clean, sustainable energy.
