Alfa Designs Nigeria Limited has received approval from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to start converting diesel-powered engines to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
The company, a major player in the oil and gas industry, announced it had completed the Proof of Concept (POC) for its conversion kits, securing a five-year license for deployment.
“We already have the kits, and after following the necessary protocols, we’ve gotten approval to move forward,” said Mr. Quadri Fatai, Group Managing Director of Alfa Designs.
He emphasized that the conversion would enable a dual fuel system, using both diesel and CNG interchangeably to power vehicles, engines, and generators.A key feature of the conversion kits is the Telematrix device, which will monitor the condition and location of converted vehicles.
“The Telematrix will track the engine’s performance and also provide real-time data on diesel and gas consumption,” Fatai explained.
“It’s a tool for maintenance and also ensures safety by detecting any tampering.”This shift to CNG is expected to significantly reduce logistics costs.
“The dual conversion ratio of 30% diesel and 70% CNG will lower diesel consumption and minimize pollution caused by incomplete combustion,” Fatai noted.
In addition to this, Alfa Designs is collaborating with a leading Chinese CNG-powered generator manufacturer to supply facilities with energy-efficient solutions.
The cost of the conversion will vary based on the engine size and condition, but Fatai assures that the investment will pay off quickly. “The savings on CNG will result in a payback period of less than three months,” he concluded.
