Awka Residents Grapple with Two-Day Power Outage, EEDC Cites Transmission Glitch

Awka and nearby communities have been plunged into darkness for the past two days following a power disruption caused by a fault in the transmission system. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) attributed the outage to a loss of supply from the 132KV line operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Awada.

In a statement, EEDC’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Eze, explained that the disruption began Wednesday morning and efforts are ongoing to restore electricity. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers and are working closely with TCN to resume power supply as quickly as possible,” the company said.

The prolonged blackout has severely affected residents and businesses. Mrs. Amaka Obi, a local vendor, said she lost two days’ worth of earnings. “I had stopped using my generator because of the previously stable power supply. When the outage happened, I expected it to be resolved quickly. Now, my refrigerated goods are at risk of spoiling,” she lamented.

While EEDC reassured the public of its commitment to improving service delivery, many Awka residents remain anxious as the outage stretches into its third day.
