Azerbaijan and Italy have held fresh talks on expanding cooperation in the energy sector during the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, with a focus on security, sustainability, and cleaner fuels.
Rovshan Najaf, president of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, met with Claudio Descalzi, chief executive officer of Italian energy major Eni, on the sidelines of the forum. Najaf later described the meeting as constructive, highlighting the strong working relationship between the two companies.
Discussions centred on possible projects linked to existing memorandums of understanding between SOCAR and Eni. Key areas of interest included strengthening energy security, lowering emissions, and developing biofuel initiatives.
Najaf noted that closer cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy could play a meaningful role in supporting Europe’s energy needs while also contributing to climate goals. He added that joint efforts could help advance renewable energy development in Azerbaijan and neighbouring regions.
