Chevron Plans to Increase Israeli Gas Supply to Egypt

Chevron Corporation says it is stepping up efforts to deliver more natural gas from Israel to Egypt as demand for the fuel in North Africa continues to surge.

Freeman Shaheen, Chevron’s President for Global Gas, described Egypt’s current need for energy as “insatiable,” stressing that the country requires every available molecule of gas to power homes, industries, and its growing energy market.

He made the comments during the Gastech conference in Milan, where global energy executives and traders are meeting to discuss the future of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Egypt has become a key regional hub for gas, using supplies from both domestic fields and neighboring Israel to meet local demand and support its LNG export plants. Chevron, one of the leading operators in Israel’s offshore fields, has been working with Egyptian authorities to expand cross-border flows.

The company believes boosting exports will not only help Egypt cover its domestic energy needs but also strengthen its position as a major player in the Mediterranean gas trade.
