Crude Output Falls After Ibas Appointment

Nigeria’s crude oil production slumped to 1.603 million barrels per day in March 2025 — the lowest since January — as unrest flares in Rivers State over the controversial appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.) as sole administrator.

The move, prompted by a state of emergency and recent pipeline sabotage, has drawn fierce backlash from the Niger Delta Congress.

The drop, confirmed by the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, marks a 68,000-barrel daily loss and sees Nigeria once again miss its OPEC quota.
