Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased its crude processing rate to more than 700,000 barrels per day, reaching a record level as Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products continues to decline.

The refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos, is now operating at about 105 percent of its nameplate capacity, marking its highest reported production rate since operations began.

At the new output level, the facility is producing about 84.4 million litres of refined petroleum products daily, strengthening its contribution to Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply.

The increase comes as the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery continues to ramp up operations beyond its designed capacity. The facility’s latest performance indicates that it is processing more crude than its original nameplate capacity.

The higher production rate is expected to further increase the volume of locally refined products available to the Nigerian market and reduce the country’s reliance on imported petrol and other refined petroleum products.

The development also reinforces the growing role of the Dangote refinery in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, particularly as the country seeks to expand domestic refining and reduce exposure to international fuel supply disruptions.

With the refinery now processing more than 700,000 barrels of crude daily, sustained access to crude oil will remain important to maintaining its high operating rate and supporting the supply of refined products to the domestic market.
