Dangote Refinery to Begin Fuel Delivery with 1,000 Trucks

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is preparing to roll out direct fuel supply across Nigeria after taking delivery of 1,000 Compressed Natural Gas-powered trucks.

The trucks, part of a 4,000-unit order from China, will first be used to distribute fuel in Lagos, Ogun, and other South-West states. Company officials said the remaining 3,000 trucks are expected before the end of September, but operations will begin immediately with the available fleet.

The launch had been postponed earlier this month due to shipping delays. Insiders said limited vessel space in China slowed the movement of trucks, forcing the company to shift its schedule.

Despite the setback, Dangote insists the project — worth over ₦720bn — will transform petroleum distribution by reducing costs, cutting smuggling, and improving access for millions of small businesses. The scheme is also expected to create more than 15,000 jobs across the logistics chain.

While the plan initially drew resistance from tanker drivers and suppliers worried about being sidelined, recent talks between Dangote and industry groups have eased tensions. Full nationwide coverage is now being targeted for mid-September.
