The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has issued a strong warning to the public over fraudulent schemes involving individuals impersonating its officials to extort money from unsuspecting investors.
In a statement released on Monday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye disclosed that scammers have been soliciting fees for supposed meetings with members of the company’s board of directors, executives, and management staff.
“The general public is advised to beware of individuals and companies falsely claiming to represent NNPC Limited,” Soneye said. “Their tactics include soliciting fees for meetings with the NNPC board of directors, executives, and management staff. These actions are unauthorised and illegal.”
Soneye particularly urged foreign investors and international businesses to be cautious, adding, “If approached, report the incident to the appropriate authorities immediately.”
He emphasized that all legitimate engagements with the company are conducted strictly through official business channels. “NNPC Limited remains committed to transparency, integrity, and the protection of our stakeholders in all interactions. Let’s work together to prevent scams. Stay alert and share this notice,” he added.
The company has reiterated its zero tolerance for fraudulent activities and called on the public to remain vigilant.
