Fuel Pricing Not Our Responsibility, Says PETROAN

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria has clarified that it does not determine the price of fuel in the country, stressing that its primary role is to ensure steady supply at retail outlets.

Speaking during a television interview, the association’s president, Billy Gillis-Harry, explained that pricing decisions are influenced by broader market forces, particularly the rising cost of crude oil used in refining.

He noted that retailers are more concerned with maintaining product availability across filling stations, adding that supply from the Dangote Refinery has so far been reliable, with no major setbacks reported.

According to him, the increasing cost of crude oil continues to push up the expense of producing refined petroleum products, making it difficult for marketers to control pump prices.

Despite this, Gillis-Harry acknowledged the pressure on consumers and said stakeholders must explore ways to reduce the burden on Nigerians dealing with higher fuel costs.

His comments come at a time when fluctuating petrol prices have raised concerns nationwide, with many households and businesses struggling to cope with the impact.
