Industry Group Praises NMPDRA for Boosting Oil Sector Performance

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has expressed strong support for recent regulatory strides in the oil and gas industry, pointing to major progress in fuel supply, investment, and operational efficiency.

According to DAPPMAN, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has played a pivotal role in reshaping the downstream petroleum space, citing improvements in transparency, market confidence, and infrastructure.

The association credited NMDPRA’s leadership for fostering a more predictable and efficient operating environment, which has reduced fuel shortages and strengthened investor participation. Under the guidance of Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the agency’s collaborative efforts with other key institutions, including NNPC Limited, were said to be instrumental in ensuring steady fuel distribution across Nigeria.

DAPPMAN highlighted a wave of new investments, especially in modular refineries, thanks to simplified licensing processes and better regulatory enforcement. Industry data shows that over $1.2 billion has been drawn into such projects since 2022.

The group also noted the authority’s success in tackling fuel smuggling and improving compliance through digital monitoring systems. As a result, incidents of product diversion have dropped, while fuel quality at depots has reached a 98% compliance rate.

The passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) was acknowledged as a turning point, giving NMDPRA the tools to introduce reforms like price liberalization and open market competition.

DAPPMAN encouraged continued industry-wide cooperation to support the regulator’s initiatives and drive long-term sustainability, innovation, and growth in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
