Iraq Completes Over 230 Oil Wells in 2025

Iraq’s oil sector made significant strides in 2025, completing work on a total of 237 wells, the Iraq Drilling Company announced on Sunday.

According to the company, its teams drilled 62 new wells and carried out rehabilitation on 175 existing wells last year. The projects were executed following approved technical plans and international safety and quality standards.

Director General Hassan Mohammed Hassan highlighted that these efforts are part of broader plans to boost operational capacity and improve technical performance. He noted that these measures are expected to support higher crude output and ensure long-term sustainability in production.

Oil remains the backbone of Iraq’s economy, accounting for more than 90% of government revenue. As the second-largest oil producer in OPEC+, the country currently produces around 4.4 million barrels per day.
