Katsina Seeks Federal Handover of 10MW Wind Farm

Katsina State is pushing to take control of the 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm from the Federal Government. The state recently submitted a detailed business plan aimed at completing and running the project.

Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, Special Adviser on Power and Energy to the Governor, met in Abuja with Mr. Mahmuda Mamman, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power, and Mr. Jobson Ewalefoh, Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

Ahmed presented Katsina’s plan to operationalize the wind farm through a Special Purpose Vehicle, work directly with the equipment manufacturer, and set up a Power Purchase Agreement with Kano Electricity Distribution Company.

Ewalefoh praised the state’s readiness, noting that progress could be rapid once the vehicle is established. The Permanent Secretary also commended Governor Radda’s initiative, describing it as a major milestone in Katsina’s renewable energy journey.

The state has been asked to submit a formal request to ICRC along with a detailed business model to obtain a Certificate of Compliance. Once active, the wind farm is expected to provide clean energy, create employment opportunities, generate revenue, and strengthen Katsina’s position in Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
