Local Refineries Accused of Importing Substandard Crude to Cut Costs

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has alleged that some local refineries are importing substandard crude oil with high sulfur content to reduce costs.

PETROAN’s National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Obele, highlighted that this began after the Federal Government ended the naira-for-crude deal.

He urged refinery operators to ensure imported crude meets global standards to maintain high-quality petroleum products.

Though Obele refrained from naming the refineries, he stressed that they are aware of their actions and should take corrective measures.
