Mozambique LNG has officially resumed all its onshore and offshore activities, marking a major milestone for the country’s energy sector. The announcement came during a meeting in Afungi between Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, and Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo.

The restart follows the lifting of a Force Majeure status that had been in place since 2021, allowing the consortium to resume construction and development work. Over 4,000 workers are now engaged in the project, with more than 3,000 being Mozambican nationals. The project is currently 40% complete, and first liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries are expected by 2029.

The Mozambique LNG project is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits, creating up to 7,000 direct construction jobs for Mozambicans and awarding more than $4 billion in contracts to local companies. Beyond construction, the project also includes a socio-economic program aimed at supporting communities in Cabo Delgado province.The
