MSM Group to Invest Billions in Nigeria’s Cement and Power Industries

Nigerian conglomerate MSM Group is embarking on a multi-billion-dollar expansion plan targeting the cement and power sectors, aiming to become a major player in Nigeria and across Africa.Currently strong in oil and gas, MSM plans to diversify by building a cement plant in Kebbi State and acquiring the Geregu Power Plant.

The group recently signed a $2.4 billion deal with Kebbi State for a three-million-metric-ton cement plant, expected to create over 45,000 jobs.Alhaji Muazzam Mairawani, MSM Group’s chairman, said, “From now to production, our timeframe is a maximum of two years.”

He also revealed plans to expand cement production to Edo and Gombe states to compete with industry leaders like Dangote, BUA, and Lafarge.Industry analysts link MSM’s aggressive growth to Nigeria’s “economic reforms and investor-friendly policies,” which could reshape the country’s energy and construction markets.

An MSM Group official, speaking anonymously, confirmed, “Yes, we plan to expand our operation. That’s all that can be said for now.”

With this bold move, MSM is set to transform Nigeria’s industrial landscape and boost economic activity, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
