NIPCO Plc is increasing its investment in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on petrol and promote cleaner energy alternatives.
Speaking at the company’s Annual General Meeting in Abuja, Managing Director Suresh Kumar said NIPCO recognised the potential of CNG as an alternative fuel over 15 years ago and is now intensifying its rollout nationwide.
Kumar noted that the company’s renewed push aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is aimed at supporting the country’s energy transition. He added that through strategic partnerships with the government, more motorists and industries will soon benefit from the affordability and environmental advantages of natural gas.
He also praised the company’s workforce for driving NIPCO’s growth, saying their commitment has been instrumental in the company’s expansion plans.
Looking ahead, Kumar said NIPCO will focus on strengthening its operations, improving internal controls, and increasing brand awareness, while maintaining its investments in the downstream sector.
He stressed that the company’s long-term goal is to combine profitability with sustainability and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s clean energy future.
