NNPC Lowers Petrol Price to ₦815 per Litre in Abuja

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) at its retail outlets in Abuja, bringing the cost down to ₦815 per litre.

A survey of fuel stations across the Federal Capital Territory on Monday confirmed the new pricing, which represents a ₦20 drop from the previous ₦835 per litre sold at NNPC outlets. The adjustment was observed at several locations, including stations in Lugbe, Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and the Kubwa Expressway.

Despite the reduction, NNPC’s price remains higher than that of MRS filling stations, which currently sell petrol at ₦739 per litre nationwide.

Other marketers recorded varied prices across Abuja, reflecting ongoing competition in the downstream market. Matrix stations sold petrol for about ₦840 per litre, Sunlight outlets dispensed at ₦825, while Optima Energy maintained a price of ₦835 per litre.
The latest price review is part of a broader competitive shift in Nigeria’s fuel market following the entry of large-scale local supply from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Increased domestic refining has intensified price competition among marketers, leading to frequent adjustments in pump prices.

NNPC had earlier reduced its petrol price by ₦80 in December 2025, cutting it from ₦915 to ₦835 per litre after Dangote Refinery slashed its ex-depot price to ₦699 per litre. That move marked one of the most significant price changes in recent years and signaled the growing influence of market forces in the deregulated fuel sector.
