The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) is preparing to reach four major Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) before the end of 2025, according to its “Monthly Report Summary for April 2025” published on Thursday via the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The projects being considered include the Ntokon Development Project (OML 102), the Crude Oil Production Expansion Project (OML 29), Gas Development Projects across OMLs 30 and 42, and the Brass Fertilizer Project. NNPC said the investments align with its broader strategy to boost efficiency, increase revenue, and diversify the country’s energy portfolio. “These projects are crucial to improving production efficiency, boosting revenue, and diversifying Nigeria’s energy mix,” the report stated.
One of the more anticipated initiatives, the Brass Fertilizer Project, is expected to meet growing domestic fertilizer demand, reduce import reliance, and support agricultural productivity.
On the operational front, the company reported that crude oil and condensate production in April averaged 1.61 million barrels per day (mmbopd), slightly down from 1.67 mmbopd recorded in January. In contrast, natural gas production rose to 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), up from 7,120 mmscf/d in February.
NNPC Ltd posted a revenue of N5.89 trillion for the month, with profit after tax standing at N748 billion. Statutory payments for the first quarter amounted to N4.225 trillion. In terms of infrastructure, the report confirmed progress on the OB3 and AKK gas pipeline projects, especially on technical issues related to River Niger crossings. OB3 has reached 95% completion while AKK is at 70%. The company also recorded a 97% upstream pipeline availability, suggesting improved operational reliability.
Refinery facilities in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna are currently undergoing assessment. The company also completed turnaround maintenance in April for several critical oil mining leases, including OMLs 18, 58, 118, and 133.
As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, NNPC said 531 NYSC members received solar power starter packs under its youth empowerment programme. In addition, 83 individuals trained in ICT and 170 talents in the creative industry were given business starter kits. The company’s healthcare outreach led to 2,005 successful cataract surgeries and the rehabilitation of three hospital wards at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Igbobi.
NNPC noted that all crude oil and gas production figures are provisional, unaudited, and based solely on its internal data, excluding figures from independent operators tracked by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
