NNPC Secures Over $20bn Gas Deals Through Trans Niger Pipeline

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has secured gas sales and purchase agreements worth more than $20 billion over the past year, according to Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL).

PINL also disclosed that NNPCL recorded a profit after tax of N535 billion in June 2026, highlighting the financial importance of maintaining stable operations across the country’s critical pipeline infrastructure.

The disclosures were made during PINL’s August 2026 Stakeholders Engagement Forum held in Port Harcourt, where issues surrounding the security and performance of the Eastern corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline were discussed.

According to the company, pipeline operations across the Eastern corridor and the Eastern Gas Network remained largely stable in recent months. The Emohua area recorded no incidents of vandalism or other infractions during the period reviewed.

However, PINL’s General Manager, Community and Stakeholder Relations, Dr Akpos Mezeh, said there were isolated incidents involving sabotage attempts, vandalism and equipment failures.

He explained that response teams were deployed quickly to restore affected facilities, while security agencies arrested some individuals suspected of involvement in the incidents.

The Head of Field Operations, Eastern Corridor, NNPCL Project Monitoring Office, Engr Akponime Omojevwhe, confirmed the positive security record in Emohua and praised residents for their cooperation.

Omojevwhe urged communities hosting oil and gas infrastructure to continue supporting efforts to protect the facilities, stressing that uninterrupted operations are essential to sustaining government revenue.

The stakeholders’ meeting came shortly after ECOWAS leaders signed an intergovernmental agreement for the proposed African Atlantic Gas Pipeline. The planned 6,900-kilometre project is expected to connect Nigeria with Morocco through 13 West African coastal countries.

Mezeh noted that projects of such magnitude require reliable pipeline infrastructure and sustained cooperation among energy companies, host communities, traditional institutions and security agencies.

The Paramount Ruler of Emohua Kingdom, His Majesty Ohna Seargent Awuse, said PINL’s approach to engaging host communities had improved relations and created a more favourable operating environment.

PINL also announced plans to continue its scholarship programme for students from host communities throughout the duration of its Federal Government contract.

The company said it would equally expand initiatives focused on youth and women empowerment, entrepreneurship development and skills acquisition within the communities along its operational corridor.
