The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has taken a major step toward bringing Ogun State into Nigeria’s list of oil-producing states following a recent technical inspection of the Eba oil well in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
The visit, carried out by a team of NNPCL experts, signals growing momentum toward the start of commercial oil drilling in the area. The exercise followed the approval granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for commercial exploration at the site.
Officials from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and security agencies joined the inspection to assess the readiness of the oil well and surrounding infrastructure ahead of drilling activities.
The technical team was led by Hussein Aliyu, Project Coordinator for Enserv, alongside other NNPCL engineers and specialists who evaluated the operational and safety requirements necessary for production to commence.
Reacting to the development, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the project as a significant breakthrough for the state. He noted that oil production at Eba would boost economic activity, create jobs for residents and deepen federal government presence
