Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has granted a fresh Petroleum Exploration Licence to SeaSeis Geophysical Limited for the acquisition and processing of advanced seismic data across a large offshore area in the Eastern Niger Delta.
The three-year agreement, signed in Abuja, allows SeaSeis to work in partnership with the commission and TGS to gather new 3D seismic and gravity data aimed at improving geological understanding beneath the seabed.
According to the commission, the survey will span approximately 11,700 square kilometres in deep and ultra-deep offshore waters, covering depths ranging from about 400 metres to nearly 2,800 metres. The data generated from the exercise is expected to provide clearer insights into hydrocarbon potential in the region and support future exploration planning.
Officials say the project will produce high-resolution subsurface information that can guide investment decisions and help attract interest in Nigeria’s offshore basins, particularly in areas that have not been extensively studied in recent years.
The regulator noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand exploration activities, improve the country’s data library, and create a more attractive environment for upstream investors seeking reliable geological information before committing capital.
