President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that the planned expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will provide employment for about 95,000 skilled workers at the peak of construction.
Dangote made this known in Lagos during his induction as an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering. He described the refinery scale-up as a landmark project that reflects Nigeria’s growing industrial capability.
According to him, the facility, which currently has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is projected to reach 1.4 million barrels per day within three years. He noted that the construction phase alone would require thousands of engineers, technicians, and artisans, with priority given to Nigerian professionals.
Dangote said the expansion demonstrates confidence in local talent and reinforces his group’s long-term commitment to strengthening technical expertise and industrial development across the country.
He added that once the upgrade is completed, the refinery is expected to surpass India’s Jamnagar Refinery in size, making it the largest refining facility globally.
Beyond job creation, he explained that the project would stimulate domestic manufacturing, promote technology transfer, and deepen Nigeria’s oil and gas value chain. The development is also expected to enhance fuel supply stability, cut down on petroleum imports, and conserve foreign exchange.
In his remarks, the academy’s president, Rahamon Bello, said Dangote’s recognition goes beyond infrastructure, noting that his achievements continue to inspire a new generation of engineers and entrepreneurs to pursue bold ideas within Africa.
