Seplat Energy Champions Nigeria’s Gas Revolution at Global Conference

Seplat Energy PLC has reaffirmed its commitment to leading Nigeria’s indigenous gas revolution, pledging continued investment in domestic gas infrastructure and innovation.

The company made this bold declaration during the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, United States.

Speaking during a panel session themed ‘Harnessing Nigeria’s Gas Potential for Domestic Utilization and Global Export Market’, Mr. Oladotun Isiaka, Managing Director of Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU), highlighted the company’s vision for a gas-powered future for Nigeria.

“Nigeria has over 200 Tcf of proven gas reserves; among the top 10 globally. The country stands at an inflection point: use gas to power its population, industrialize, and capture global export value,” Isiaka said.

“Seplat Energy believes gas is not just a transition fuel — it is the growth engine for Nigeria’s energy future.”Isiaka called for robust collaboration across the gas value chain, emphasizing that “indigenous leadership, backed by supportive policies and financing models, is critical to Nigeria’s gas sector growth.”

Seplat Energy currently supplies about 30% of Nigeria’s gas-fired power generation needs, operating the Oben and Sapele Gas Processing Plants with a combined capacity of over 300 MMscfd.

The company is also set to launch the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, a 300 MMscfd facility jointly owned with the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), by 2025.

“Our SEPNU offshore gas has significant potential for both domestic and export markets, with reserves close to infrastructure,” Isiaka noted.

Additionally, Seplat is investing in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and electrification projects for underserved communities—initiatives that align with Nigeria’s Decade of Gas agenda.

“Gas must displace biomass and oil-based fuels like diesel, which dominate Nigeria’s energy landscape today,” Isiaka added.

Seplat Energy remains at the forefront of driving energy access, sustainability, and economic growth through gas-powered solutions led by Nigerian expertise.
