Seplat Names Mohammed, Ettah as Independent Directors

Seplat Energy has announced the appointment of Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed and Larry Ephraim Ettah as Independent Non-Executive Directors, with the appointments set to take effect from January 1, 2026.

The company said the appointments follow the resignation of Bello Rabiu and Babs Omotowa in April 2025, after both were named to the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Seplat explained that the new board members were selected through a structured succession process in line with its governance framework and long-term leadership plans.

Engineer Mohammed brings over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with a strong background in natural gas development, infrastructure delivery, and policy formulation. He previously served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Gas and Power at the former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, where he was involved in shaping major national gas initiatives and delivering critical gas infrastructure projects.

His career spans leadership roles across key energy institutions, including managing director positions at the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company, as well as board roles within Nigeria LNG and the West African Gas Pipeline Company.

Larry Ettah joins the board with nearly 40 years of corporate leadership experience. He spent three decades at UAC of Nigeria Plc, rising to the role of Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, where he led strategic restructuring, partnerships, and acquisitions across multiple sectors.

Following his exit from UAC, Ettah founded Barracuda Capital Partners, where he serves as Executive Chairman, and continues to hold several board positions across financial services, real estate, and consumer-focused businesses. He has also contributed to national economic policy through advisory roles and industry associations.

Commenting on the appointments, Chairman of Seplat Energy, Udoma Udo Udoma, said the company is confident the combined experience of both directors will strengthen the board and support Seplat’s strategic growth objectives.

He added that the board looks forward to their contributions in driving sustainable growth and maintaining strong corporate governance standards.
