Shares of Seplat Energy Plc rose to a record N16,000 on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Thursday, extending the energy company’s strong performance in the stock market this year.
The stock gained N1,092.20, representing a 7.33 per cent increase from its previous closing price of N14,907.80.
The latest rise has lifted Seplat’s share price by 175.44 per cent since the beginning of 2026, when it traded at N5,809 per share. Over the past year, the stock has gained 197.44 per cent.
The rally also increased Seplat’s market capitalisation to about N9.6tn, making it one of the largest companies listed on the Nigerian bourse.
Seplat’s performance helped drive gains in the oil and gas sector, with the NGX Oil/Gas Index rising 3.95 per cent to 6,252 points.
Trading among other major oil and gas companies was mixed. Eterna rose 1.3 per cent to N39, while Oando declined by 0.97 per cent. Conoil, Aradel Energy and TotalEnergies remained unchanged.
The surge in Seplat’s shares comes against the backdrop of improved financial and operational results reported by the company in the first half of 2026.
Seplat recorded N790.4bn in profit before tax for the six months to June, representing a 74.1 per cent increase from N454.1bn recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
Revenue also increased by 15.5 per cent to N2.50tn, while production averaged 139,509 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the period.
The company’s stronger output has been supported by the consolidation of its offshore assets and increased production from its onshore operations, including contributions from the Sapele Gas Plant and newly completed wells.
Seplat had previously reported that its average production reached 131,506 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025, a 148 per cent increase from the previous year. Its annual revenue also climbed to a record $2.73bn.
The company’s rising share price has coincided with higher international oil prices and increased concerns over energy supply routes following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The latest market performance marks another record for Seplat after its shares also reached a new high earlier in September.
