Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Ramat as New NERC Boss

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abdullahi Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Ramat, a 39-year-old electrical engineer with a PhD in Strategic Management, will take up the role immediately in an acting capacity to prevent a leadership gap at the agency. His substantive appointment, alongside those of two other nominees, will still require Senate approval.

Also on the President’s nomination list are Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged the appointees to deploy their expertise to drive reforms and accelerate progress in Nigeria’s power sector.

The President stressed that their leadership will be key to advancing his administration’s vision for a more reliable and efficient electricity industry.
