TotalEnergies has announced a new oil discovery in Angola and secured a 40 per cent operated interest in two additional exploration blocks as the French energy company expands its upstream activities in the country.

The discovery, known as Acacia-5, was made in June 2026 on Block 17. TotalEnergies said the development is expected to add about 6,000 barrels of oil per day to production from the block.

The company plans to fast-track the project, with first oil expected within three months of the discovery.

In a separate development, TotalEnergies signed agreements with Angola’s petroleum regulator, Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (ANPG), to participate in exploration activities on Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin.

Under the agreements, TotalEnergies will operate the two blocks with a 40 per cent interest.

The latest moves come as the company prepares to commit significant capital to Angola’s oil industry. TotalEnergies Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Pouyanne, said the company and its partners plan to invest $10bn in Angola over the next five years.

The new discovery and entry into the exploration blocks reinforce TotalEnergies’ plans to sustain its oil production and exploration activities in Angola while developing additional resources in the country.
