U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, saying any further attacks on Qatar’s liquefied natural gas infrastructure would trigger a major U.S. response.
The warning comes after Iran launched strikes on Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar’s main LNG hub, causing what authorities described as significant damage. The attack was carried out in retaliation for an earlier strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, the world’s largest natural gas field.
Qatar has since reacted by expelling Iranian military officials, deepening tensions between both countries as it continues to assess the extent of the damage.
Trump said the United States had no involvement in the initial attack on Iran’s gas field but warned that Washington would act decisively if Qatar’s energy infrastructure is targeted again. He added that a potential strike on Iran’s South Pars facility would be carried out with overwhelming force, though he expressed hope that such escalation can be avoided.
Countries across the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have condemned Iran’s actions, describing them as a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability.
The crisis is unfolding alongside ongoing hostilities involving Israel, which has intensified attacks on Iranian targets. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that continued strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure could lead to wider global consequences.
Global oil markets are already feeling the impact, with prices rising amid fears of supply disruptions. The situation has been worsened by tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for a significant share of the world’s oil shipments.
