Africa’s Energy Future in Focus as Gas Turbine Experts Meet in Abuja

Top industry leaders, engineers, and policymakers will converge in Abuja from June 23 to 24 for the Annual Gas Turbine Asset Management Conference 2025, hosted by Thomassen Energy and PE Energy.

Held at the Continental Hotel, the high-level summit is themed: “Unleashing Value: Innovative Asset Strategies for a Resilient African Economy.” The two-day event is aimed at reshaping how Africa powers its future—by focusing on smarter, more sustainable asset management strategies in the gas turbine (GT) space.

“We believe the future of Africa’s power lies not only in building new assets, but in unlocking the full value of the ones we already have,” said Dr. Daere Akobo, Chairman and Group CEO of PANA Holdings. “This conference is our collective call to action to upgrade, innovate, and to empower a continent ready to lead.”

With power demand surging and turbine fleets aging, experts say that innovation in asset management has become essential. The event will spotlight new ways to extend the life of GT infrastructure, drive digital adoption, and localize services across Africa’s energy sector.

“Asset management is no longer a back-office function; it is the frontline of Africa’s energy transformation,” said Peter Stuttaford, CEO of Thomassen Energy. “Together with our partners at PE Energy, we are here to drive solutions that extend turbine life, localize expertise, and power a future that is both sustainable and self-reliant.”

Key topics on the agenda include:

Localization of GT services in Africa

Performance optimization and life extension

Predictive maintenance through digital innovation

Operational flexibility in evolving power grids

Clean energy pathways and GT asset rehabilitation

Participants will also benefit from technical training sessions tailored for engineers and turbine operators—covering practical skills in maintenance, upgrades, and future-ready operations.

Organizers say the event is more than a conference—it’s a turning point.

“This is not just a conference; it is a catalyst for change,” the statement added. “Attendees will leave with cutting-edge insights, practical tools, strategic partnerships, and a renewed sense of purpose to drive Africa’s energy evolution.”
