The China-Russia East-Route natural gas pipeline has officially delivered over 100 billion cubic meters of gas through its Chinese section, marking a significant achievement in the two nations’ growing energy partnership.
The milestone was reached as of July 10, according to officials in Heihe, the northeastern border city where the pipeline enters China from Russia. The pipeline transports natural gas from Siberia down through several Chinese provinces, ultimately supplying energy to major cities like Shanghai.
Stretching thousands of kilometers, the project is a cornerstone of energy cooperation between Beijing and Moscow, providing a long-term source of clean energy while strengthening strategic ties.
Recent images from the Heihe pipeline station show engineers and maintenance crews actively inspecting and managing equipment to ensure smooth operations. The station is a critical hub for monitoring and regulating gas flow along the pipeline’s Chinese stretch.
The pipeline, which began operation in 2019, has become an increasingly important part of China’s energy infrastructure, aligning with national goals for cleaner fuel and reduced reliance on coal. It also underscores the deepening trade and energy ties between China and Russia amid shifting global energy dynamics.
This achievement comes as both nations continue to expand cooperation under multilateral frameworks like BRICS and engage in further joint ventures in infrastructure, energy, and trade.
With the pipeline continuing to operate at high capacity, experts say the next major benchmark will be scaling up supply and further extending the pipeline’s reach across China’s industrial heartlands.
