It’s Time to Find Out Who’s Messing With Nigeria’s Oil Money – Reps Launch Major Probe

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has opened a sweeping investigation into the OVH acquisition deal and the billions spent on refinery rehabilitation that keep ending in failure.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, didn’t hold back:
“It’s time to find out who’s messing with Nigeria’s oil money.”

Despite heavy investments in refinery repairs and Turn Around Maintenance, the facilities have gone silent once again and lawmakers want answers.

Refinery owners and oil marketers say they’ve been sidelined by unclear policies, and some are reportedly traveling as far as Switzerland just to secure crude supplies.

Petitions received by the Committee also accuse the Dangote Refinery of attempting to dominate the transportation and retailing of petroleum products, a potential monopoly lawmakers say they won’t allow.

Ugochinyere assured the public that the Petroleum Industry Act could be amended to stop any unfair control of the sector.

As part of efforts to rebuild trust and fix structural issues, the House will host the first-ever Downstream Petroleum Week this October to spark reforms and spotlight solutions.

With billions at stake, Nigerians are watching closely to see if this probe delivers real change, or becomes just another oil drama.
