Victor Ekpenyong, Chief Executive Officer of Kenyon International West Africa, has been honoured with the Africa Legacy Leadership Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International, at a recent energy technology conference held in Tanzania.
The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to Africa’s energy industry and his ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and education across the continent.
During the event, Ekpenyong announced the launch of a regional student scholarship programme in collaboration with SPE’s Africa Region. The scheme, aimed at supporting young Africans pursuing careers in the energy sector, has already selected five beneficiaries from Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania.
According to Kenyon International, the initiative was inspired by Ekpenyong’s encounter with a student whose academic journey was nearly cut short due to financial hardship. That experience, he said, highlighted the urgent need to invest in students with potential but limited means.
SPE President, Olivier Houzé, who presented the award, commended Ekpenyong not just for his leadership in energy development, but also for using his platform to make a meaningful impact beyond the industry.
The Africa Legacy Leadership Award recognises individuals contributing significantly to the growth of Africa’s oil and gas sector while promoting development within their communities.
