Residents and businesses across Lagos should brace for intermittent power supply as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) kicks off major maintenance work on a key transmission line starting Monday, July 28.
The maintenance, which is expected to span 25 days, will involve upgrading the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line. According to the TCN, the project includes the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable and will run daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., wrapping up on August 21, 2025.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO) have approved the exercise as a necessary step to enhance the performance and monitoring of the national grid. The upgrade is also intended to fully enable the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time grid management.
While TCN has assured that power will be restored through the affected line at the close of work each day, customers served by both the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) should expect occasional outages and load shedding throughout the duration of the project.
In separate advisories, both distribution companies informed customers across their networks of potential disruptions, emphasizing that the maintenance is aimed at long-term service improvements.
“Intermittent outages may occur, but we will do our best to minimize impact,” Ikeja Electric stated in its public notice.
EKEDC echoed the message, advising customers within its coverage area to prepare for scheduled outages during the maintenance window.
The temporary power challenges are part of a broader infrastructure push aimed at stabilizing electricity supply in Lagos and improving grid efficiency nationwide.
