MRS, NNPC Increase Petrol Pump Price to N975

Retail outlets linked to Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals have adjusted their petrol pump prices upward, following a fresh increase in the refinery’s ex-depot rate.

A check across filling stations in Abuja on Tuesday showed that MRS Oil Nigeria Plc and NNPC Limited retail outlets raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N875 per litre to N975 per litre – a N100 increase within 24 hours.

Other marketers also followed the trend. AYM Shafa and AA Rano adjusted their prices from N880 to N960 per litre, reflecting an N80 hike.
The development came shortly after Dangote Refinery reviewed its gantry price for petrol, moving it from N774 to N874 per litre. The refinery cited instability in the global crude oil market and rising replacement costs as reasons for the adjustment.

A senior official at the refinery confirmed the price review, noting that fluctuations in international crude benchmarks made the change unavoidable.
Industry sources said the new rate has already taken effect across several depots, signaling a possible nationwide rise in retail fuel prices in the coming days.

The price shift followed a temporary suspension of petrol loading operations at the refinery from midnight on March 2, 2026. While PMS loading was paused, diesel supply continued without interruption.

Market watchers observed that the refinery’s decision had an immediate impact on the downstream sector, with some private depot operators reportedly halting petrol sales during the trading session as they awaited clarity on pricing.

The upward adjustment has renewed concerns about the cost of transportation and goods, as consumers brace for the ripple effects of higher fuel prices across the economy.
