Nigeria’s fuel market saw a significant downturn in June, with petrol supply dropping to 1.48 billion litres, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Fresh data presented to the Federation Account Allocation Committee shows that 1,440,768,129 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) were evacuated nationwide during the month — an average of 48 million litres per day. This represents a fall of about 290.5 million litres compared to May’s 1.77 billion litres, marking a 16.42% decline. Truck-out volumes also slid by 14.62%, falling from 1.69 billion litres in May to 1.44 billion litres in June.
While diesel supply edged up by 1.73% to 432.18 million litres, its distribution volume dropped sharply by 23.23% to 424.06 million litres. Household kerosene also took a hit, with both supply and distribution falling by over 13%. Aviation fuel faced the steepest slump, with supply down nearly 48% and distribution falling by 16.54%.
No deliveries of Low Pour Fuel Oil were recorded in June, compared to over 116,000 litres in May. The NMDPRA noted that its latest submission includes full breakdowns of product supply, distribution, and state-by-state truck-out data for the month, which are now before the committee for review.
