Fuel buying in Lagos just changed. Sunbeth Energies Limited has switched on Nigeria’s first self-service fuel station at its Ogba branch, letting customers pump and pay for their own fuel through a digital platform, no attendant required.

The system lets drivers start, watch, and finish their own transactions from a secure interface, tracking exactly how many litres go into the tank in real time. It’s built entirely by Nigerian engineers, developed in partnership with local tech firm Tech Brokers Limited.

Sunbeth’s Managing Director, Lateef Abioye, called the launch a turning point for the downstream petroleum sector, framing it as proof that Nigerian companies can build world class fueling technology without outside help. He described Ogba as a pilot for a much bigger rollout, one where digital payments, automation, and data tracking become standard across Sunbeth’s stations nationwide.

Tech Brokers CEO Wasiu Popoola echoed that ambition, noting the platform was engineered to work across multiple payment systems and forecourt setups, with room to absorb new technology as the industry evolves.

Early users seem sold on it. One customer said watching every litre dispense in front of them, without having to trust a middleman, made the whole process feel more honest and far less stressful than a typical fill-up.
