Tinubu Support Group Blasts NUPENG: You Don’t Want Nigerians to Enjoy Cheaper Dangote Fuel

The Tinubu National Solidarity Movement (TNSM) has taken aim at the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and its Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) unit, accusing them of trying to stop Nigerians from benefiting from cheaper fuel prices offered by the Dangote Refinery.

In a statement signed by its president, Mohammed Sani Akwashiki, and secretary, Solomon Ikegwuru, the group alleged that NUPENG, alongside the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was resisting competition out of fear of losing control over drivers and union dues.

According to TNSM, the unions are disguising their opposition as concern for workers’ welfare, while in reality, they are worried about losing influence. The group insisted that such actions amount to sabotage against President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda.

“The PTD is more interested in protecting its dues than in helping Nigerians enjoy affordable fuel. They don’t want competition, and they are threatening strikes to hold the country hostage,” the statement said.

The rift comes after Dangote Group launched a nationwide distribution plan, rolling out compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to deliver fuel at an ex-depot price of N820 per litre and retail prices between N841 and N851.

NUPENG, however, has criticized the move, describing it as a “Greek gift” and warning that the refinery was plotting to displace its members through anti-labour practices.

Dangote Group has dismissed those claims, maintaining that the unions are deliberately working against indigenous investments and frustrating efforts to stabilize the economy.

TNSM vowed to resist any attempt to sabotage the initiative, insisting that Nigerians deserve access to cheaper fuel and improved energy supply.
