France’s TotalEnergies refinery near Le Havre is operating at full capacity as it increases production of diesel and jet fuel to respond to disruptions in global oil supply linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The refinery is focusing on boosting output of key fuels used for transport and aviation, with operational adjustments made to maximise production from existing facilities. Site officials said the plant is running at a high level of activity to ensure steady fuel supply to domestic and international markets.
A technical manager at the refinery explained that while the facility has been optimised to prioritise diesel and jet fuel, its ability to significantly expand output is limited by its infrastructure. This means production gains are being achieved mainly through operational efficiency rather than large-scale expansion.
Before the crisis, a portion of the refinery’s crude oil supply came from the Middle East. However, disruptions in the region have forced a shift toward alternative sources, including the United States, Africa, and Europe, to keep operations stable.
Despite the changes in supply routes, TotalEnergies said it is currently able to manage its crude requirements without major shortages. However, industry analysts warn that continued instability in the Middle East could keep global fuel markets tight, particularly for diesel and aviation fuel.
