Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, alongside energy experts and policymakers, has emphasized key conditions necessary for Nigeria to achieve its renewable energy targets. Speaking at a two-day stakeholders’ roundtable conference organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy, the Osun State government, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the governor highlighted the need for local language use, gender inclusivity, youth capacity building, and investment in end-user empowerment.
Governor Adeleke said, “To build a cleaner and healthier society, we must ensure renewable energy policies are effectively legislated and embraced by all, especially at the grassroots level.”
A communique from the conference, issued by Professor Ernest Ereke and Mr. Johnson Adegoke, emphasized that “incorporating local languages in explaining renewable energy concepts is crucial for better understanding and action by local communities.”
The discussions aimed at translating shared visions into actionable state-backed strategies that promote inclusive growth through clean energy. Experts also called for policies that focus on youth empowerment and gender inclusivity as fundamental pillars for Nigeria’s energy transition.
The event marked a significant push towards tackling the country’s persistent energy deficit while promoting sustainable development in the Southwest region.
