Wale Tinubu Represents Nigeria at High-Level OPEC Energy Talks

Wale Tinubu, CEO of Oando Plc, joined a select group of global energy leaders on Wednesday at the prestigious OPEC International Seminar, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing role in shaping the global energy dialogue.

He was a featured speaker on a key panel titled “Policies and Regulations – A Just and Realistic Energy Future,” where he shared the stage with influential figures including Pedro Miras of WPC Energy, Fahad Alajlan of KAPSARC, Adrian Binks of Argus Media, Majid Jafar of Crescent Petroleum, Rovshan Najaf of SOCAR, and Amrita Sen of Energy Aspects.

The session focused on how to design energy policies that strike a balance between environmental goals and the development needs of emerging economies. Tinubu emphasized that Africa’s energy transition must reflect its unique challenges and opportunities.

“We need a transition that includes access, jobs, and industrial growth—not just climate targets,” Tinubu had said in a prior forum.

The OPEC seminar is one of the most important events in the global energy space, drawing top players from government, industry, and academia. The 2023 edition attracted over 1,000 participants, highlighting the increasing urgency around energy-related issues.

This year’s theme, centered on fairness and realism in the energy shift, resonates strongly with African nations calling for a more inclusive approach to global energy planning. Tinubu’s participation underscores the need for policies that consider the realities of countries still dependent on oil and gas revenue for growth.

As head of Oando, Tinubu has been a vocal advocate for sustainable development in Africa. His company has led efforts in gas development, carbon management, and strategic partnerships to support Nigeria’s transition toward a more resilient energy future.
