We will prioritise investments in renewable energy — Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing renewable energy development and strengthening environmental sustainability efforts across the state.

The governor said his government will focus on targeted investments in clean energy solutions and improved waste management systems as part of broader efforts to address the growing impact of climate change.
He made this known in Asaba during a professional development programme organised by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), where he was represented by his deputy, Monday Onyeme.

Oborevwori noted that climate change is already affecting Delta State, pointing to recurring flooding, shifting rainfall patterns, and rising risks faced by coastal and riverine communities.
According to him, these challenges require practical, data-driven responses that can deliver measurable results rather than long-term promises.

He also stressed the importance of sustainability reporting, describing it as a key tool for transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making in both public and private sectors.

The governor further explained that his administration, under its development agenda, will integrate sustainability into key sectors such as agriculture, urban renewal, infrastructure development, and climate resilience programmes.

He urged professional bodies like ANAN to continue promoting strong ethical standards in financial reporting, noting that accurate and credible data will help attract investment and support green financing opportunities.

ANAN’s leadership, in response, commended the Delta State Government for its support and commitment to improving governance and development outcomes in the state.
